On May 1 through May 3, Hasan Minhaj and Ronny Chieng will bring their comedy tour back to New Jersey and New York. The comedy tour is a part of their fictional long-standing rivalry, where they finally have a platform to settle their make-believe beef. I was able to watch their show on April 23 in Newark. I found it to be hilarious, with some unexpected emotional moments.
The tour’s site advertises the show as follows: “During these divided times, many people believe that open dialogue and discourse are the only tools to mend a divided nation. Comedians Hasan Minhaj and Ronny Chieng believe the opposite: hatred is the Answer.”
What to Expect
The comedy show follows Hasan Minhaj and Ronny Chieng in a debate moderated by an AI assistant on whether South Asians or Asians are better. While this could have been horribly and thoughtlessly produced, Minhaj and Chieng make their racial debate hilarious. Their PowerPoint battle will have you tearing up from laughter at the lengths they will go in order to insult each other and prove their point.
You can expect Minhaj and Chieng to get passionate about their points. Expect debates on cultural foods, key figures and even athletic prowess. There will be hilarious bits such as a mutual disagreement about tipping, making fun of the founder of Theranos and even a nod to the TV show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?.
