William Paterson Men’s Soccer’s 2025 season came to an end on Saturday, November 1, after a 1-0 loss to No. 24 Rowan in the Quarterfinals of the NJAC Conference playoffs.
The team first faced Rowan on October 11, where they managed a tie in the regular season but fell short in their rematch.
The Pioneers had a significantly better season than their 2024 run, with a conference record of 4-3-2, clinching a spot in the playoffs after their match against TCNJ.
The Pioneers last season had only managed a conference record of 3-6 and did not make it to the NJAC post-season playoffs.
With their focus being primarily defensive, the team was able to hold off on nationally ranked, strong offensive teams such as Rowan, when they faced them for the first time this season, and Stevens, who is ranked No. 21.
Throughout the season, the team has proven its growth with wins in the conference against teams they haven’t beaten consistently in the past. With the majority of the starters being senior players, the team has had the opportunity to build its team chemistry with each other.
Looking ahead, the Pioneers will have the challenge of rebuilding this same chemistry with new, potentially younger players. The team has had a good influx of new transfers and international players as well, which points to a positive outlook for rebuilding the team chemistry.
The Pioneers will end their season with improvement from the previous ones and hope to improve and be even better in the upcoming seasons.
