This past weekend, from April 17 to 19, The William Paterson Music Department put on a production of the infamous musical “RENT” written by Jonathan Larson.
“Rent” focuses on this group of friends, young artists grappling with the AIDS epidemic, drug addictions and paying rent in a harsh environment. A core message of the show is celebrating life and community in the face of mortality, encouraging the characters and viewers to measure their lives in love.

The cast put on an amazing show. The students involved in the production were:
Damian Castaneda as Mark Cohen
Joseph Villalona as Roger Davis
El Barba as Tom Collins
Ezekiel Frazier as Angel Schunard
Carlos Navarro as Benjamin Coffin
Grace Cascio as Mimi Marquez
Zana Allajbegu Joanne Jefferson
Virginia Lackey as Maureen Johnson

“I thought ‘Rent’ was nice and entertaining. Everyone in the cast was great and their voices blended so nicely as an ensemble,” said Eliana Garcia, a freshman majoring in classical voice performance. “You can tell they put a lot of effort into this production and were having fun performance.”
Keep an eye out at the campus events calendar as William Paterson’s Music Department is always putting on performances.
