After a difficult few years of being out of the spotlight of her music career, Demi Lovato made a huge comeback performing at the Grammy Awards ceremony that took place on Jan. 26. Just a week later, she belted her heart out during the National Anthem at the Super Bowl LIV.

Her performance included an unveiling of her first new song, “Anyone”, which talks about her call for help before her overdose that happened in July 2018. Lovato recorded this song four days before the overdosage happened and afterward, Lovato saw it as a new meaning.

“I even think that I was recording it in a state of mind where I felt like I was okay, but clearly I wasn’t,” said Lovato. “And I even listened back to it and I’m like, ‘Gosh, I wish I could go back in time and help that version of myself’.”

After her Grammy’s appearance, Lovato experienced a standing ovation and great feedback from her fans and other stars. Longtime friend Selena Gomez and fellow Disney actress praised Lovato on Instagram saying, “I wish there were words to describe how beautiful, inspirational and DESERVED this moment was. Demi, I’m so happy for you. Thank you for your courage and bravery.”

Before her performance, Lovato didn’t know if she would have returned to music after her overdose. In her interview with Andy Cohen on SiriusXM radio, Lovato admitted “We didn’t know what was going to happen. We didn’t know how healthy I’d be when I left, it was a scary time in my life for sure….”

Even though Lovato didn’t know if she would be performing again, she did note that if she ever did she wanted it to be her latest song and wanted to perform it at the Grammys.

Lovato has been open about her struggle with addiction and substance abuse for the last 11 years. She goes in-depth to express her struggles with drinking and drug usage in her 2017 YouTube documentary “Simply Complicated”.

In March 2018, Lovato celebrated six years of sobriety and after, released her song “Sober” in June giving a sign that she had relapsed. At the end of July, she was rushed to the hospital for an overdosage.

About six months later, she reached out to fans that she would be taking some time off to seek treatment and didn’t speak on her relapse again until another six months later. She claimed she would have been seven years sober, but doesn’t necessarily regret her mistakes since they taught her right from wrong.

Lovato notified her fans of a comeback by posting a black screen picture on social media with a caption saying, “The next time you hear from me, I’ll be singing….” just two months ago.

Little did her fans know on Jan. 14, she announced that she would be singing at the Grammys.

Making a comeback with two back-to-back performances simply proves she’s back in the game. Lovato had looked back and discovered she had made this prediction on social media back in 2010, proving to her fans that dreams really do come true.
