The Spring Jam 2018 genre poll closed yesterday and for the second year in a row hip-hop has beat out the competition and will be Spring Jam’s featured genre.

After its initial success in 2017, Campus Activities, Service and Leadership re-opened the genre poll to give staff and students a choice in entertainment. The total vote count for the 2018 genre poll was tallied at 739 votes, a jump from the 653 nods last year.

Event coordinators can now focus on finding a headliner and opening acts for Spring Jam 2018 which will take place on April 28. The sixth annual Spring Jam will also feature a new event organized by the Caribbean Student Association to expose Spring jam attendees to Caribbean culture.

“I think the crowd will be very responsive, especially due to the increased use of Caribbean sounds on mainstream radio,” said President of CARIBSA Danielle Carr.

There was a significant disparity between the top five genres this year with a total of 385 votes going to hip-hop. Pop and R&B received a cumulative total of 147 votes while punk, rock and EDM bottomed out the poll collecting 83 votes total.

Spring Jam donates a portion of all collected monies every year and this year William Paterson University 4 The Kids will be raising funds for St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Check back soon for more details on tickets and headliners within the next few weeks.
