On Monday, January 19, U.S. politician Bernie Sanders will appear at William Paterson University as part of a campaign event alongside New Jersey House candidate Analilia Mejia.
Mejia currently serves as the Executive Director of the New Jersey Working Families Alliance, a statewide nonpartisan organization dedicated to promoting and defending the interests of New Jersey’s working families.
The event will take place at the Shea Center for the Performing Arts, which was rented by the Friends of Bernie Sanders. According to the University, William Paterson is not involved in the event beyond providing the venue in response to a rental request. The University emphasized that the Shea Center is a public resource available to any organization that enters into a rental agreement.
As a public university in New Jersey, William Paterson issued a statement on its official website clarifying its position, stating: “We are non-partisan and do not endorse any candidates for public office.” Any questions regarding the event should be directed to the Friends of Bernie Sanders.
Attendees are instructed to use Entry #3 off Pompton Road upon arrival. Free parking will be available on-site in Lots 3 and 4.
The following items are not permitted inside the venue:
