Jonas Brothers Comeback with a Huge Hit Single Named “Suckers”
March 26, 2019
Nick, Joe, and Kevin Jonas announced on Feb. 28 that they were reuniting their old band, the Jonas Brothers, after almost six years apart.
Fans were thrilled and went to Twitter to express their excitement. The Jonas Brothers shouldn’t be surprised to find their fan base is still strong and awaiting new music.
Along with the announcement, the band treated fans to a comeback single and music video with the song “Sucker.” The song debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking the band’s first-ever top single on the charts. After a week of the song’s release, it went to No. 5 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart and continues to be among the top 10 songs.
The “Sucker” video, directed by Anthony Mandler, features the brothers’ significant others: Nick’s wife Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Joe’s fiancée Sophie Turner and Kevin’s wife Danielle Jonas.
Mandler said making the video was special for him because he came out of retirement to direct it. He was surprised about the crew’s ability to keep the project a secret and mentioned that the key to its success was working fast to ensure that there was no paparazzi walking around set.
Mandler also said that making the video hardly felt like work because of the amount of fun they all had filming on the set.
The video, which showcases the chemistry between the three couples, was shot at Hatfield House, one of England’s largest private estates. The set was full of color in the clothing and background. The brothers perform the lyrics “I’m a sucker for you” as the women appear on the screen, referencing who the song is dedicated to.
During the week of Mar. 4, the Jonas Brothers sat down for an interview with James Corden on his show, ‘The Late Late Show with James Corden.” The band talked with Corden about what it took to bring them back together and why it broke up in the first place.
Nick confessed that he was initially the reason the band broke up, but added that he was also responsible for getting it back together.
On the show, the boys played games such as “Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts” and “Side Effects May Include.” The band played “Sucker” for the first time live as well.
The trio also did a spoof of their song “Year 3000” called “Year 2019.” The song consisted of jokes about the current year while they and Corden were dressed in the 2007 attire they wore when the original song was released.
As part of the Jonas Brothers takeover, Corden took them for a ride to do some “Carpool Karaoke.” The boys sang along to some of their old hits, including “Burning Up,” “Year 3000″ and “Lovebug.”
The brothers have mentioned that a reunion tour may be in the works, but they have not released specific dates yet.
