‘Democracy For $ale’ as it was dubbed was the very informational film session that the library held this Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2025.
The event highlighted a major part of the democratic process: campaign financing.
It was an exceedingly relevant topic to discuss, especially given the various news reports that have continually portrayed the so called ‘threats to democracy’ that have been directed toward the general public as well as public media outlets.
The film captured the mechanisms of the campaign financing process and how there have been many instances within the last decades of gerrymandering or overrepresentation of corporations by candidates.
It also captured the effect of our own Justice system which, although has and is valuable in creating a just society, might actually make decisions which allow for loopholes that end up benefitting self-interested entities.
It has also shed light on the significant role journalists have in discovering these gaps within American democracy and highlighting them to the public.
As an institution, William Paterson has served to cultivate students that are for democracy and not against.
The many professors, classes and programs students are involved in assist in developing an intolerance for injustice that have been seen in American society and may even affect the William Paterson community.

In the future. With campus events such as these, the library has served to promote the informational sources to keep students educated of the current issues in society.
They have also provided critical resources to help students understand the different ways to address these issues and who or where to obtain assistance.
Upcoming events, like “A Library Introduction To AI” on December 4 will help students develop a comprehensive understanding of artificial intelligence, its authenticity as well as how one may approach its use with consideration of its effects within the classroom and its application in society.
It is very essential; therefore, that students make use of the resources that are afforded to them, resources which individual tuition have rightly earned them.
The library is an example of such a resource, as such, the library assistants have implored that students attend these events which are not only informational, but also relevant.
