This past Wednesday, the campus’s Songwriters Guild hosted their semesterly Band Night at the Debonair Music Hall in Teaneck, NJ, where artists and bands from the Popular Music program are invited to perform, according to Isabella Basile, president of the Songwriters Guild.
Basile described Band Night as an opportunity for students in this department to “showcase their talents and grow as both individuals and artists.”
“They are really just to help artists grow and give them a safe place to do it with friends, peers, and family,” Basile said.
Past Band Nights were held at Prototype 237 in Paterson, Debonair Music Hall, which is where this semester’s event was held, and other venues in the area, according to Basile.
For this Band Night, starting at 7 pm, the audience heard music from 10 different groups, each with its own unique sound for fans of different genres to enjoy.
Mint Herrmann, a solo performer, sang with just a guitar, starting the night with an acoustic feel.

Following Herrmann’s performance, the audience heard performances from groups such as With Skies, Drew Jay and Friends, Gabbi, and more, each group bringing their own energy to the venue and performing different genres. There was a nice combination of pop, metal, R&B, and more from these solos, duos, and full bands. These performances consisted of covers from artists such as Billy Joel, Paramore, Gwen Stefani, and more. There was also a lot of original music, showcasing the performers’ talent not just in playing, but also in songwriting.
The final performance was from a five-person group called the Baddies, who performed original music and ended the night with a cover of Manchild by Sabrina Carpenter.
When talking about the successful night, Basile shared her favorite part of the event.
“I think my favorite moment from the night was watching each and every artist shine in their own way,” Basile said. “It’s just amazing seeing each and every artist’s personality show on stage through their stage presence! As well as seeing them grow!”
Regarding plans for the future with the Songwriters Guild, Basile says that they plan on doing another event next semester. She also invites students to the Songwriters Guild’s Java Jam event at Einstein Bagels in University Hall that will be held this Tuesday, Oct. 21. This event is for pop students, or other students who sign up, who would like to perform in front of a crowd.
