Review of The Long Walk (2025):
In a Dystopian world based on the novel of the same title, written by Stephen King, we are faced with a reimagined United States as a militarized, authoritarian regime where fear and violence are used to maintain order among its citizens.
“The Major”, played by Mark Hamill, a military dictator, rules over the United States after a so-called “Big War,” and every year in a Hunger Games-Esque televised event, 50 boys compete in “The Long Walk,” where they must walk for as long as they can while maintaining a speed of over 3 miles per hour.
If they fail to do so after 3 Warnings, they then “get their ticket punched” and are publicly eliminated right where they stand.
That goes on until one remains, and the winner receives an unspecified amount of money and one wish to be granted.
The Message
This film conveys a beautiful message about the importance of friendships and brotherhood.
A group of boys does something that’s not advised, which is forming a bond that becomes so much more than just being friends.
Towards the end of the film, after a rollercoaster of emotions, few remain.

There are significant emotional moments held between the group.
Why I Liked It
I absolutely love the brotherhood moments in the film, especially between Peter McVries and Ray Garrity. This movie is well-cast, with outstanding acting performances throughout.
I also really love the cinematic shots in the film during the walk. I felt very immersed in the movie and felt a part of the story.
Regarding how they handle the death scenes, it’s very graphic, but you feel the same pain.
My Dislikes
Overall, the film is excellent; however, I have one issue with it.
The pacing at times is slow. Although it runs for an hour and forty-eight minutes, it tends to drag at times and feels sluggish. That is the only downfall of the film.
More From Stephen King
This would be the second film to be released this year based on a Stephen King novel.
The first film was based on one of the famous writer’s novels, The Monkey, which was released in February of this year. Although it received decent reviews, the movie underperformed at the box office.
The Long Walk was released on Sept 12, with other titles drowning out this great movie. The Long Walk is not expected to do well at the box office either.
The next movie to be released is The Running Man, starring Glen Powell, which is not only based on a novel but also a reboot of the 1987 adaptation starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Conclusion
This movie is a must-see. It’s a great film with outstanding performances. I rate the movie as 3.5 out of 5 stars.
