The ladies of William Paterson have officially started their Fall 2025 campaigns, playing multiple games and setting the tone before they begin to play for the conference.
Soccer
Women’s soccer kicked off its season with a thrilling 3-0 victory over Centenary during its home opener at the Pioneer Soccer Park. Senior back Erin Clark contributed two goals, one of which was a penalty kick with 1:29 remaining, scoring her first career goals. Junior back Kira Collum also contributed to the 3-0 score with a goal at the start of the second half, getting her first career goal.
The Lady Pioneers went on to win two more games against FDU-Florham and Penn State Abington, but fell in matches against Wilkes University and St. Joseph’s University, Long Island.
In the first three weeks, senior Sarah Mantilla has already been named NJAC defensive player of the week, recording 21 saves while allowing just one goal across two matches from that week. The team, with a record of 3-2, plays three more games before the start of conference play with a match against Stockton University on Sept. 27.
Field Hockey
Field Hockey has had an unfortunate start to its 2025 season after losing its first five games post-preseason. In their first match against Vassar College, sophomore forward/midfielder Kelsey Geurts finished a pass from sophomore forward Ali Stoner at the 28:37 mark, gaining her first goal as a Pioneer. After not scoring for two consecutive games, the Pioneers managed to score 4 goals in their two most recent games.
Against Drew University, Stoner netted her first goal of the season in the sixth minute and her second in the 21st minute, and sophomore goalkeeper Grace Jenkins tallied a career-high of 18 saves.
In their most recent match, the team fell 5-2 with Senior Allison Ochs and Stoner tallying goals. The Pioneers will face five more opponents before their first NJAC game on Oct. 8, 2025, at Montclair University.
Tennis
The women’s tennis team began the season with a 6-1 loss to Brooklyn College during their season opener on Sept. 10. Junior Isabella Paladino won first in Singles for the Pioneers 6-1 and 6-3.
Sophomore Alison Stein and freshmen Haley Bernard and Anysa Rivera made their William Paterson debuts. Their next game will be on September 17th against FDU-Florham in a road non-conference match, and they will play their one and only NJAC game against Kean University on Oct. 15.
