Alex Rodriguez knows that his use of performance-enhancing drugs has kept him out of the Hall of Fame.
But it shouldn’t.
Take away the seasons when Rodriguez admits he used PEDs, and he still has Hall of Fame numbers: 506 home runs, 1553 RBIs, and 2317 hits.
They’re not far off from the totals of David Ortiz, who made the Hall on the first ballot in 2022 despite a reported positive PED test.
Of course, Rodriguez is just one of many players who took steroids in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Unlike most of the pack, he was a generational talent.
Through his 22 seasons in Major League Baseball from 1994 to 2016, Rodriguez joined Hall of Famers Hank Aaron and Willie Mays as well as Albert Pujols, who becomes eligible for the Hall in 2028, as the only players with 600 home runs, 2000 RBIs, and 3000 hits.
He appeared in 14 all-star games, earned two Gold Gloves, and won Most Valuable Player three times.
Rodriguez also won the World Series with the Yankees in 2009. He adapted his style as he grew older, playing a significant role in the Bronx that led to postseason runs in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2015.
Rodriguez already served his time with a suspension for the entirety of the 2014 season.
He’s taken responsibility for his actions. It’s time for the baseball writers to let him in.
