The Pioneers baseball team is headed down to the Sunshine State during William Paterson’s spring break for the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational Tournament.
The Pioneers look to capitalize on their two-game winning streak and use it as momentum going into a competitive schedule in Florida. On Monday, they beat SUNY Cobleskill 14-2, and on Thursday, they beat Manhattanville College 11-10.
“So I think getting two in a row right before we go and play a very competitive schedule while in Florida. It’s going to benefit us and you’re playing with a little bit of confidence right now, which is a big help,” Head Coach Mike Lauterhahn said.
The Pioneers will play their first Florida game against the University of Wisconsin-Supriror Saturday at 9:15 a.m. The team sees these next few games as a great opportunity to improve before conference play.
“A lot of it has to do with chemistry, and I think that we’re really starting to gel right now. They get along with each other real well, but now we got to take the things that they’re doing outside of the field and have that implemented into our game plan,” Lauterhahn said. “And I think that the Florida trip is going to help us tremendously to help build that up.”
Upon returning to Wayne, the Pioneers will play at Keystone before heading to their first NJAC game against The College of New Jersey at Jeff Albies Field.
