After a grueling seven-month off-season, we got to witness all 32 teams go head to head in matchups that certainly did not disappoint. 

Despite all the offseason speculation, rumors and drama nothing beats the realization that the NFL was missed. Fans got more than a fair share of their daily dose of serotonin.

Here are some big takeaways from week one:

New York football is still really bad

The New York Giants faced a two-score loss to one of the more beatable teams on their schedule, the Denver Broncos. We knew coming into the season, the Giants still needed to make immense improvements to the roster before being considered a genuine threat in a shaky NFC East.

Unfortunately, the Broncos exposed those flaws. The Giants had no honest answer for a subpar Denver defense and found it nearly impossible to defend an offense lead by Teddy Bridgewater. The Jets, on the other hand, have a bright future in quarterback Zach Wilson.

Wilson found his comfort zone after a few rookie mistakes (including an interception) as the Jets attempted a late-game comeback vs. the Carolina Panthers and former Jet, Sam Darnold. He would finish with 258 yards passing along with two passing touchdowns in his rookie debut.

Although improvements on both sides of the ball will be necessary if the Jets look to close out the season above .500, New York (Jets). Fans should still be excited about what the former BYU QB can bring to their franchise. 

The Rams are serious contenders for a Superbowl

A week one win versus a bottom of the barrel Bears team is undoubtedly nothing to brag about in a league chock-full of talent. Though the acquisition of a Matthew Stafford-led offense proved to be precisely what they need to make their run for a ring once again. 

Stafford led all quarterbacks in week one with a 156.1 passer rating. His 20/26 completions paired with three passing touchdowns notched this milestone in a convincing 34-14 win over Chicago.

The Rams looked solid on both ends of the ball and head coach Sean McVay looks to be in mid-season form already. An early look at the rest of the NFC shows that not many teams in the conference will be able to hold them off on either side of the ball. If their week one performance is reminiscent of what the rest of their season looks like, teams across the league should be fearful! 

Young Quarterbacks were dominant

Starting QBs under 25 include Kyler Murray, Zach Wilson, Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, Daniel Jones, Mac Jones, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, Trevor Lawrence, Justin Herbert and Tua Tagovailoa. 

In a quarterback-driven league having a solid starter you can mold for years to come has been proven to win Super Bowls.

Most of these players have implemented themselves among elites within the league and high hopes are set on rookies like Jordan Love, Trey Lance and Justin Fields.

For them to follow in the footsteps of not only their predecessors but their respective rookie classmates. Expect more of the same from these future stars in the weeks to come.

The MVP Race has begun.

Yes, it’s only week one. In this way, too early MVP race, many guys have shown why they’re are worthy of manteling the title of 2021 NFL MVP. 

At number five is Bills’ quarterback, Josh Allen (+1200 odds, via FanDuel). In a tough loss to a phenomenal Steeler defense, Allen put up 270 yards passing along with one passing touchdown. Although lower than his previous season average, it is still probable he will shred opposing defenses in the weeks to come.

At number four is Kyler Murray (+900 odds). His five total touchdown performances versus Tenessee was the cause for his massive jump in MVP ranking.

Tom Brady (+900) remains in the top three for week two after a convincing win versus an all-around sound Dallas team. His late-game prowess to come out with a victory complemented his four-touchdown, 379-yard performance.

Climbing up the ranks to number two is the Rams’ Matthew Stafford (+800) after his dominating performance versus the Chicago Bears. Before week one he was not even top 10 in the MVP odds and so, what a turnaround.

Number one is, of course, Patrick Mahomes (+600). His stellar late-game 12-point comeback thrilled many, but with an athlete like Mahomes, nothing seems to be far from impossible. He came into the season as the favorite and will likely occupy those top two positions for the majority of the season, bearing good health.

Russel Wilson (+1300)

Dak Prescott (+1500)

Aaron Rodgers (+1500)

Justin Herbert (+2000)

Lamar Jackson (+2300)

Notable names such as Jameis Winston and Jalen Hurts have climbed up to #11 and #12 at (+3000) each.

There were a ton of close games and unimaginable state lines by a handful of players. To be sure this wasn’t simply a fluke, we will check back next week and see how things pan out.
