A look into Australian UGGS

March 6, 2007--WPU
By Alina De Almeida

One thing we all wanted this winter were shoes to keep our feet warm and comfortable. It’s been pretty hard to miss the new ‘IT’ boot this season that meets these standards without a problem. The boot, commonly known as “UGG” has made its way into a majority of our closets being one of the top sellers this winter. Lined with sheepskin and covered with a soft sued exterior, the Australian boot makes walking comfortable which is why it has become so popular. Whether you’re at the mall, in school or any other non-formal event, if you look around, you will spot UGGS.

UGG boots are worn in various ways. They’re worn outside the jeans, with the pants tucked inside or beneath the jean, allowing us to only see the top exterior. UGGS have also been popularly seen worn with winter skirts. Girls have been wearing skirts a lot this season with UGGS simply because they’re able to keep warm with the fuzzy sheepskin interior.

Don’t like them in Tan? Buy them in Brown. Don’t like them in Brown, try Black! UGGS are made in various colors for us to choose from so that we can match our outfits. Not only do UGGS vary in color, they vary in height and style as well. UGGS come in different heights of short and tall. The short boot looks best on shorter people whereas the tall boot looks best on those with height. A few different styles of UGGS include UGG Classic, UGG Brooks, UGG Catalina, UGG Crochet and UGG La Jolla, the list could keep going.

When it comes to people’s reactions on the UGG boot, there seem to be two very different responses. Some people love them but others can’t stand them! Many have referred to the UGG boots as “UGG-ly” and would not dare be seen in them. Others enjoy the comfortable soft interior and see past their bulky appearance.

So how much longer are we going to see these Australian boots trailing around? Well, once the winter season passes and we’re embraced with spring’s warmth, UGGS will no longer be a necessity. But don’t think that’s the last of them! A recent poll I took on campus showed that 97% of students who wore UGG boots this winter will definitely be wearing them next year too. “They’re not only comfortable; they keep me warm, why wouldn’t I wear them again? My UGGS, they aren’t going anywhere.” – Student.
